The Jast Clip {With Pictures and Video}
Introducing The Jast Clip
“The Jast Clip” is a device designed to make the water can or any portable fire extinguisher easier to carry, crawl with, store and deploy. Included are images of attaching the device to a portable fire extinguisher and to a firefighter.
When utilizing this device the profile of the firefighter is not affected as with traditional methods of carrying a portable fire extinguisher and this method also makes carrying a portable extinguisher a hands-free task, making the firefighter a more versatile asset, especially in today’s environment of personnel shortages and budget cuts.
What problem does it eliminate?
Storage of portable extinguishers in the past has been inside of cabinets and strapped into compartments. With The Jast, the extinguishers can be stored in a tube on the running boards of the apparatus and the firefighters can simply walk up to the extinguisher and clip into The Jast and the extinguisher will be carried with ease. When carrying a portable extinguisher without any strap it is difficult to maneuver and when doing a search in a low to zero visibility atmosphere it becomes almost impossible to utilize and maintain it’s orientation. Also, when moving with an extinguisher without The Jast, the extinguisher is held on one side of the body making your profile that much larger and making movement through doorways and tight areas more difficult.
How can it help firefighters?
It can help firefighters by making portable extinguishers more convenient to store, carry, crawl and utilize. Thus improving the chances that firefighters will carry the extinguishers and it is no hidden fact of the effectiveness of portable fire extinguishers especially on incipient fires.

How The Jast Clip is Used
The device is attached to a portable fire extinguisher by a patent pending buckle tongue and webbing and a buckle with clasp is attached to the firefighter at the point of their choice.
The best place that I have found through trial and error is to the SCBA pack strap on the opposite side of the air line and to the utility clip and not the strap release.
Storing The Jast Clip
When utilizing the clip the extinguisher can be stored in more easily accessible areas such as on a running board or bumper in a tube, the firefighter is not expanding their profile because the extinguisher hangs vertically in line with their body and when crawling the can drags hands free, compared to the conventional pushing or pulling of the extinguisher.
Also, this keeps the can in a recognizable position so when it needs to be utilized in a zero visibility environment the controls and discharge hose is easily accessible.

The second image (Fig. 2) is of the device being installed on to a portable fire extinguisher, which is completed by removing the discharge hose and putting the webbing behind the pressure gauge as shown in (Fig. 3).
The installation of the attachment point to the firefighter is shown in (Fig. 4).
