Instructor Dave Walsh- Program Coordinator for the Fire Science Program.

About this Interview:

In this interview, we discuss several things about why fires are burning hotter than ever and what we need to know about it. Also:

  • What is Dave doing with his students and how he brings the book knowledge to life.
  • What are the big challenges we face today that we didn’t face years ago.
  • Legacy Materials verses Current Materials
  • Light Weight Construction and the dangers of it.
  • Working smarter on today’s fire grounds
  • What are the risks & rewards with certain strategies and tactics on today’s fire grounds.
  • And more.

About Instructor Dave Walsh:

Dave has over 42 years in the fire service and has witnessed the evolution of the fire service. He is currently the program chair for the fire science program at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is also a state fire instructor. Dave has led 100′s of firefighter’s through experiments and has taken the science of firefighting and brought to life with demonstrations he does with his students.

Dave believes the fire service is in the midst of another tremendous transformation regarding how we do business and believes the U.S.A’s fire services are now, more than ever, starting to turn to,rely on and adjust to scientific research and evidence rather than the “this is how we always done it” mentality.

Dave is passionate about insuring that today’s firefighters are educated and trained to deal with the incidents they respond to as well as thoroughly understanding the “why” behind everything they do. Dave feels the main ingredients to being a great firefighter are training, education, experience, common sense and leadership.
