How To Stop Feeling Hungry All The Time

Many people, especially firefighters, struggle with being hungry all the time, making it really hard to lose or maintain a healthy weight. Luckily, there is one thing you can do to ward off those nagging hunger pains that’s not only easy, it will also feel great.

This feel-good strategy is to get as much sleep as you can.

I know this one can be very difficult for firefighters due to the job demands, but you should prioritize sleep as much as you can – that means going to bed early when you’re at work, and taking naps and clearing things from your schedule so you can sleep more when you’re off duty.

Here’s why: Sleep deprivation makes your body crave food.

The reason sleep deprivation is so bad for your waistline is because your body knows you are low on energy when you haven’t had enough rest. Thus, your brain sends signals to get more fuel – and our bodies get fuel from food! Calories are literally what we use for energy. However, your body’s signal to turn on hunger (it does this with hormones) is inappropriate – because what your body really needs is rest. It is well established that sleep deprivation is associated with weight gain and obesity.

So next time you seem to be a bottomless pit, try snoozing for a while instead of grazing the fridge. You will be really surprised at how effective this is. Plus you’ll be killing two birds with one stone – getting more sleep and avoiding overeating are both really great for your health!

Hi Damian, try drinking a full glass of water when your first wake up, give it 20-30 minutes and then see if you’re still hungry.
